Departure Point
We meet at 8:30 a.m. at Portal Creek. Go south on highway 93 from Jasper 7.5 km to the junction with the 93A highway. Turn right onto the 93A and follow south for 2.5 km to the junction with the Marmot Basin ski area road. Follow the Marmot Basin road for 6.5 km to the point where it crosses Portal Creek. Park in the parking lot on the left side of the road south of the creek.

Transportation
Trips to the Tonquin Valley depart from the Portal Creek/Tonquin Valley Trailhead approximately 10 km south of the town of Jasper. Guests have the choice of travelling by foot or saddle and packhorse up into the valley. The five hour ride covers 14 miles of spectacular alpine terrain. The outfitter chooses the horses on the basis of each individual's ability.

Lodging
Our visitors stay in individual chalets which sleep from one to six people in comfortable bunk beds with all bedding provided. Chalet furnishings include crackling wood-burning stoves which make the rustic ambience even more cozy. Tonquin Valley trips are limited to 18 people in order to maintain an uncrowded and relaxed atmosphere.

Meals
Being active out in the fresh mountain air works up a healthy appetite and our fabulous home cooked meals will leave you more than satisfied. Our guests gather around the lazy susan table to enjoy delicious meals ranging from baked hams and turkey to sizzling barbecued steaks, as well as home baked pies, cakes and bread.

Fishing
The four mile long Amethyst Lake is famous for its large aggressive Rainbow trout, where five and six pounders are not unusual and trout as large as 12 pounds have been caught. Just steps away from the chalets lies the dock, with its selection of rowboats and canoes waiting for the anxious fisherman. Moat Lake, a one mile long lake in the north west corner of the valley is well stocked with Rainbows up to 18 inches and offers spectacular dry fly fishing when the lake is calm. A National Park Fishing Licence is required and may be obtained in Jasper or at our Lodge.

Day Rides
Tonquin Valley offers the riding enthusiast as abundance of area to explore, with breathtaking panoramic views of the valley from above the treeline.

Hiking
Those who prefer to do their exploring on foot will find endless new territory to discover and enjoy in a quiet peaceful setting.

Photography
Guests who enjoy taking pictures will find themselves in a virtual paradise. There is a wide array of wildflowers as well as numerous types of wildlife including mountain goat, caribou, moose, bear, osprey and eagles.
